CASTERTON REVISITED

This is the second time we have been to this lovely town.  It’s the home of the Kelpie Dog.

We are staying at a lovely little caravan park situated right next to the bowls club. Last time we were here, Mr Havachat, (Ed) was talking to a bloke and they ended up having a roll up game together.

Today.... Ed read the notice board at the bowls club and they have a mixed bowls day....yippee....a good day tomorrow !

And it’s so close!

The caravan park only has 25 sites, and there’s only 3 of us here which is nice.
We are spoilt with power & water..and lovely clean showers where I will be for a while!!

This is the caravan park...lovely & green. I had so much washing to do, so out came our little washing machine & was rapt to see there was an Aussie Hills Hoist to hang it all on ....love those washing lines....(I’m very easily pleased)

There’s a swimming pool over the road....

And a footy oval next door....look at that sky....

And a bit of corrugated iron sculpture down by the river..
This caravan park is run by volunteers and they come and clean twice a day so it’s spotless. And it’s only $25 @ night.  Bargain!

WANNON FALLS

From Panmure, we drove through some lovely countryside on a very narrow, quiet road that’s only really used by the local farmers. By doing that,  we saw how dry this country is as there’s been no rain for a very long time.

It’s dairy country out here, and a lot of the farms supply milk & cream for our Bega Cheese Company, which is based on the New South Wales coast, at Bega, which is where those terrible fires are happening at the moment.

It was a cool day and quite windy, so we decided to pull in for the night at a place called Wannon Falls.
You take a turnoff off the main road, go through a gate where you are warned not to camp there on Total FireBan Days....which it wasn’t.

When you drive in you come to a lovely camp ground where there’s room for about 12 caravans, and a few tents.

We found a spot, where we were not under any trees, I love trees but won’t park under the Gum Trees as there’re not called “Widow Makers” for nothing!!!
There was only one other caravan with us when we pulled in but other camper vans came later on.
There is no power...or water here...and it’s a free camp!
Ed went for a wander .... as Ed does .... and I decided a batch of coconut pancakes where needed! It was really quiet and I was in the zone when I heard a magpie, which I love to hear, opened the door and there stood 8 maggies.....they must have smelt the pancakes...so they were rewarded for their lovely bush song!

We had a lovely sunset.....

Watched a couple of late movies....put the heater on, and had a good sleep!

Next morning before we drove off, we went to see the Wannon Falls....but unfortunately because of the drought, they weren’t flowing....there was only a little bit of water there.
I can just imagine by the photos how lovely it would have been otherwise....and it’s full of lovely Banksia.....we will have to come and see it another time.

The water is suppose to flow over the top of that shelf on the right and down into the pool. So sad!

So on we went and we are now set up in a small country caravan park at the Bowls Club of Casterton..

We are here for a couple of days so more to come....

Oh nearly forgot....while we were walking around the streets of Panmure....we found this tree in one of the very few houses in the little town......

It’s a shoe tree....and they except any old shoes you have if you want to contribute!
