TAMBO. QLD
Had a day off writing yesterday, we just decided to have a look around Tambo as there was so much to see.
Tambo is a very pretty little rural town with a population of approx 400.
Again, Cattle and Tourism are the major industries, and a few heritage building survived from the earliest days of settlement in 1863.
The name Tambo comes from an Indigenous Australian word, meaning hidden place, or “resting place, fish shady waters, hidden waters, a secluded spot and hidden yam.
Tambo proudly claims that it is the oldest town in Central Western Queensland
Tambo is famous for its Tambo Teddy Workshop, set up by three local women in 1992 to help promote the wool industry after years of drought had caused wool prices to fall.
One of those Teddies was given to Prince Harry and Megan when they visited Australia.
Each of the Teddies created are numbered, and all have their own individual name. Over 50,000 have been made.
So there’s a bit of “Teddy” advertising around the town!
There’s also a coffee shop called Fanny Mae’s.
With this famous horse, made out of wood…..outside the shop.
It has a very interesting name……a great story.
It took the artist Pip Fearon about 50 - 60 hours to make. He weighs approx 300kg and is constructed from locally sourced hardwood timber.
Lovely man, reminded me of my Dad smoking his pipe.
As I said, we loved this pretty town, so I have more photos of it that I will post in the next blog.
Stay safe ❤️
