RAVENSHOE
Once again we have come across another gorgeous little town in the Tablelands Region of Queensland.
We only travelled about 90 klm, from Walkamin,(we had expected to drive more than that before we stopped), but we just couldn’t go past without staying here and looking around the town.
It was meant to be 2 days but that has changed to 4!
At 930 meters above sea level, Ravenshoe is the highest town in Queensland with the highest pub!
It’s also known for its Millstream Falls, the widest waterfall in Australia
Our little caravan park is great, and completely run by volunteers that do a terrific job.
The caravan park and Heritage steam railway are incorporated in the same area. There is also a men’s shed, and a great barn that sells all sorts of local arts and crafts, and the local band come and practice on Thursday evenings on the “train platform” while the damper cooks in the camp oven over the hot coals.
It’s a wonderful place.
I thought this “band” would be a bango, spoons & bottle tops on a stick type band :) .... but they were really good and played the latest music.
You need a couple of hours to look through here!
Ed having a yarn with these woodcutters :)
We also found “windy hill”
It was so bloody cold & windy.....good place for the turbines..they power about 3,500 homes. Check out the tree....that’s the direction the wind always blows!
And this chap welcomes you to Ravenshoe....
We leave here on Sunday, reluctantly, as we need to get going. Our time is going fast before we need to get back to Tweed and we have so much to see yet!
We have travelled about 2,600 klm so far and we have that and a bit more to go!!
We are having such a great time!
