A TRIP INTO THE MOUNTAINS. N.S.W.

We drove up the highway today and turned in at a small little village called Moorland.

This is a map that was given to me at the Tourist Information Centre by the helpful guy working there.

He highlighted a scenic drive that he thought would be interested in…..so we packed a lunch, thermos and snacks and headed off.

It was a lovely drive through farmland and on to another small village called Hannam Vale.

Just after that the road turned into a dirt track, and got very narrow, which we weren’t told about, but what the heck…..we followed it up the mountain and came to Waitui Falls.

So we checked out the falls, not as impressive as Ellenborough ….and not near as many steps…but pretty in it’s own right.

There were a few people there, not too many, but the younger ones braved the cold water, and some even jumped off the top of the falls.

So we climbed back up to our car and had lunch before going on through the loop around the mountains.

It was such a pretty place to have lunch in amongst the tree ferns.

So off we went and followed the map …….next stop ….”Flat Rock Lookout”

And that’s where it started to get a bit hairy again on that dirt road, that was only room enough for one car. We were committed as there was no where to pass a car let alone turn back!! 😳😳
I was trying to avoid huge pot holes, fallen branches, and other debris.
And poor Ed’s arse cheeks were clinging to the seat as he was on the side where the mountain fell away to a sheer drop.

We eventually came across Flat Rock Lookout. We parked the car….yes there was room for that…..we were the only ones there!

It was good to get out of the car….

And what a view! It was like being in an aeroplane looking down on the world…..that’s how high up we were.

This was what you walked out on to….a “Flat Rock”

And this is what we saw….

I cannot describe how magnificent that view was….and these photos don’t do it justice at all.
We’ve never seen anything like it before….we just had no words.

Ed couldn’t stay there long as he’s not keen on heights …..but I couldn’t tear myself away.

So we left that beautiful spot to continue on our journey around the loop and on to the caves…….and that’s when everything went a bit wrong. 🙄

We got in the car and started on our journey, travelled about 10km and turned a corner and there was a huge tree blocking our way.
We both looked at one another….stunned.

Not forgetting how narrow that road was ……Ed got out to look at the tree….it was massive, there was no way we could move that.

So what do you do when you’re on the top of mountain, a tree in your way, on a narrow road, all by yourself ????

You do a 100 point turn of course 🤣🤣🤣

So Ed was outside directing me, testing the edges each time I went forward and back two inches at a time.

But together we did it! Yay….😊😊😊

Turned around and then had to do that huge…slow…rough journey back from where we had started from.

What an adventure that was. Those roads were the worst we have ever been on.
They were narrow, steep, flooded in spots, rocks as big as the holes were deep, thank goodness for 4 wheel drive.

We are now at home in the van, coffee had…..and relaxed again. The car is dirty as and needs a good wash, but that will wait till tomorrow.

We’ve had a good laugh about it all……and that’s why we love to travel.

It’s all about the memories ❤️❤️

Take care xxxx🥰
