HAPPY NEW YEAR.
Happy New Year to all my family and friends.
For the first time in many many years, we didn’t even stay up to wait until midnight.
In fact it was very quiet here in the Showgrounds, so I think maybe that it was just safer to stay home and go to bed.
It got me thinking though about New Years Eve and the parties we had at home when I was younger.
Mum and Dad would go all out…. and we would have all the neighbours come over…..and all the adults would have a few (maybe a lot) of drinks and food.
Us kids would get shoved off to bed early, but we never slept as we also wanted to wait until the stroke of midnight.
I remember also they would talk about who would be “The First Footer” to come through the door. Apparently it had to be a tall dark haired man carrying a lump of coal !!??
It would scare the crap out of me waiting for this spooky man to come knocking at the door……but I never did see him as I always fell asleep. I vaguely remember asking my Mum about this scary man when I was little and she just laughed and said it was your Dad.
I never gave it another thought anymore as we moved away from that neighbourhood and all their friends so there wasn’t any more parties and “dark haired men and lumps of coal”
So I was just sitting here today…..reminiscing about family….as you do….and all the great Christmases and New Years we’ve had……and it got me thinking about this “Dark Haired Man and his lump of coal?
So…..as you do these days……I googled it!
And My mystery has been solved after 60 years……
It was my Dad!! He was always the dark, handsome male with the lump of coal.❤️❤️
Why did that take me over 60 years to find that out?
Was Dad wanting me to know that he is right beside me always… no matter what?
Maybe he didn’t want me to be scared of strange men carrying lumps of coal anymore 🥰…..love you Dad xxx
Hope you all have a safe 2022
Xxxx❤️❤️❤️
