KARUAH

We left our great spot at Kempsey this morning and followed the highway south once again. 

The Pacific Highway is a great highway. It’s improved so much over the years with 2 lanes one side, Bush and trees in the middle, and another 2 lanes going north. 

It’s great if you are travelling from Melbourne to Sydney and through to Brisbane 

It’s great if you are travelling and just want to get from A  to B

But that’s not us!

So as we travelled along this highway, it was getting near lunch time.

We had just passed a sign that said Karuah exit, so I took it!

It’s about 4km in off the highway, and again like many of these small towns, they have now been bypassed.

What a little gem! You cross this beautiful river and we found a lovely place to stop, have lunch and a wander. 

I fell in love with that lovely house over the river. What a view.

Someone had fed the pelicans with a load of unwanted fish. 

And this big fire pit was in the park where our caravan was parked.

There was a plaque with a photo....

The people of Karuah gather around for special occasions. 

This is what was written.....

A Meeting Place....

Sit within the protection of this fire.

Be near to each other, listen to the sounds of the river

Know too that you are not the only person to have chosen to cross the river here

Be glad to be here,

This is a place for pausing & resting,

It’s a place for calm.

Whatever you decide as you sit here within the hold of the River, fallen warriors, and playing children,

I hope you decide wisely, for yourself, your family & friends,  at this meeting place.🌻

Those words were just beautiful to me.  

What a lovely place that was. 

We have now turned off the Pacific Highway ...yippeee.. and turned on to the Golden Highway, which is not so busy and goes winding through some beautiful country towns. 

We are stopped at Jerry’s Plains for the night. We have been here a few times as it’s a great stopover for the night. 

Ed went out and fed them...

There’s a few of us here tonight. There’s no power here, but we have our own, and it’s getting a bit chilly, so the diesel heater will be on soon.
