our travels: 03/19/21

COONALPYN S.A. 19th MARCH 2021

Left our lovely Lake Bonney today and travelled south for about 220 klm through lots of lovely Wineries and grape vines that have just been harvested.

We went through Berri and past the Berri winery which is absolutely huge!

Then left the very pretty wine region and travelled through lots of wheat farming.

It’s very very dry out there and it looks very bare as the wheat has all been harvested as well.

There’s lots of very small towns that have closed all their little shops and pubs and it’s just like one day they just shut their doors and walked away. Very sad.

We stopped for a cuppa in one of those towns, where once stood the communities “local” pub.....but now all closed ....

We have seen it a lot on our travels....shop, pubs, houses....just left empty. 😢

Then we came to a bigger country town that seemed to have survived well as

“The Art Silo Trail” brings so many travels into town and stop for a coffee.

This silo is different as by day it’s a lovely picture then by night it lights up and tells another story.

So now we are parked up at Coonalpyn in a small community run caravan park next to a swimming pool. It’s been a very warm day so having power to run the aircon is lovely, and the ammenities are lovely and clean. There’s a donation box here so for $20 it’s a great little stop.

We are the only ones here so it’s nice a peaceful.

We have just come back from a walk around the “town” and local streets, that has a population of approx 150.

Strange and wonderful things can always be seen when you walk around the town.
