We are now in Mildura again. The trip up to here was very windy, and we were greeted with a dust storm when we arrived. Dust storms are very common here as when the winds come from the west, they pick up all the red dust from the farms that haven’t got their wheat planted. So our cars are dusty, our caravans are even worse, but that’s the joys of living in “The Mallee”
It was great catching up with family again, and I get some “me time” tonight as Ed and his brother have headed off to the Mildura Harness Racing Club to watch the horses go around. They both love the trots, and had shares in different horses over the years together.....so Ed will be able to catch up with lots of people there that he hasn’t seen since we left Mildura ...about 30 years ago!
Yesterday we went for a drive to Wentworth, which is about just over 40 km away. We used to go to the Trotting Track out Wentworth many many years ago when our horses raced out there too. My Dad loved going out to the “trots” with us...but we soon learnt it wasn’t to watch our
horses race.....he just loved the country feel of the place and the sausages & onions in bread that were cooked there!! Great memories....
Wentworth is a lovely small country town, and it’s also where the Darling River meets the Murray River.

This is where the rivers meet....you get some great Murray Cod here...(we also caught a few Perch & Redfin when we’d go fishing with my Dad here at the Lock).......but also lots of Carp....yuk! If you catch a Carp you are not allowed to put it back in the river as they are a pest. A lot of “International People” eat them....but they have to be “bled” first.
You get a great view from up those 40 stairs....

This is the old Gaol....
And this is a shop in the Main Street of Wentworth.... check out these books...and the dust in there was free.....covered everything....but the old man in there....who looked like he was born in the shop and never left ....I bet he knew everything he had in that shop.....amazing! And those floorboards...so noisy....but I’m sure they were his security...you couldn’t hide in that shop!
