SUNSHINE 🌞
We woke this morning to beautiful sunshine, and a lovely gentle warm breeze.
I think I finally got to sleep at four this morning, so to sit outside in the peace and quiet, with my morning coffee, was something special.
There were a few campers in last night, and we all spoke about leaving this morning.....a few eager young ones left, which meant there was only the three couples left.
The six of us said our 'good mornings' and chatted about the weather with each of us shrugging our shoulders when asked who was leaving!
Life on the road as we all call it, is like that. No hurry, no time limit, with no plans.
We all ask one another, "what's the date?" Or better still...."what day is it?"
We never know either!!!
Now it's 9.30 in the morning, and we six people can't seem to decide whether to stay or go...until the lady from the 'progressive town society' comes over to our camp and asks would we all like to come to morning tea in the local town hall across the paddock?
Well, thanks!!! Decision made!!!! 😂
So our small group of happy campers trot over to the 'hall' and were given such a really friendly warm welcome from all the ladies of the neighbouring cattle farms.
And the spread! These ladies of the outback certainly know how to put on a spread! Sandwiches, cakes as light as a feather with REAL farm cream, scones, slices, tea, coffee and so much more.....
We chatted..... the progression society wanted to know was there anything they could do to improve our little campground....which in my eyes was perfect anyway....they chatted to us about what the town was like in the earlier days when the town buzzed and their local dance in that hall would attract 400 or more and the men would 'disappear' out the back because someone had bought the hush hush booze in the boot of his car!!!
The stories were great....and now the town is lucky to survive which is so sad.
The school here has a total of six students only. And they fear the government will pull the pin and close it down through lack of attendance.
It's a lovely old town, the houses are so cheap, but the young ones won't stay.
After our scrumptious morning tea, we were entertained by an older lady who in her hey day would put on musical theatre in the same hall and played the piano.
Now that might make people groan....( it did me) but watching this lady and the way she played that piano I felt like I was transported back in time as I watched all the other elderly ladies 'remembering when '
So our morning came to an end with thanks all round for a really lovely time.
These people are so genuine with their hospitality, and for me, i take my hat off to the farmers doing it tough, because we city folk have got it so good.
These people rely on the rain to fill their tanks, yet they generously give us water on tap in the campground.
They have no shop to pop into to buy simple supplies, yet they bake us gorgeous cakes and endless cups of tea and coffee.
Thanks ladies. And yes we WILL tell travellers to come into your town and give a donation for letting us stay at Goovigen and making us feel so welcome !! ❤️❤️
