LONGREACH
Longreach is in the central west of Qld, and we are approx 700 km from the coast!
At the moment we are camped at a lovely spot for a couple of days just out of the town, at the Thomson River with about 100 other campers!
Even though there’s lots of us here, it’s a huge spot so we are not crammed in.
We have lovely neighbours, Cathy & Alan, who also live in their van permanently, so we’ve had lots to chat about! They “house sit” as well (like we once did) so it makes us want to get back into that..... maybe one day when circumstances are right.
This is the lovely old railway station.
And this is where we are camped.
Ed is down by the river at the moment fishing but I don’t hold out much hope he brings something home for dinner as no one seems to be catching anything.
The river is quite low, because of the drought.
And this morning we had a “hoy in the van” from a local telling us that 2000 cattle will be coming through in an hour, so they quickly put up an electric fence and we all waited.
We had front row seats! How “city” are we??? !!!
I did do a video but I can’t post it on here which is a shame.
All those cattle crossed the bridge in the photo above.
It was such a sight all those cattle going around in circles and the two guys on motorbikes now, keeping all those cattle together.
Kept us entertained.
Many years ago while travelling over in Western Australia, we were outback camping and we got a knock on the door to say that a huge amount of cattle would be coming through but they did that with a helicopter. It was amazing watching the guy manoeuvre that chopper.
Love travelling!
Oh forgot....we even have the resident roosters here as well. They are well fed!
