Yesterday after leaving, we had a big drive as we had to get through Sydney. Big cities are not my thing as far as pulling a caravan through the heavy traffic.
Because we are following the Hume Highway, you also get the big trucks that go from one capital city to the next, so as you can imagine, they are huge....and they are fast. They are mostly very obliging, ( i cant drive as fast as they can,) so i try to keep out of their way!!
But what made it worse was it started to rain just as we were getting closer, so i saw a sign that said "Driver Reviver"(its a spot that is sponsored by business people to encourage people to stop for a while. They provide a cup of tea or coffee for a gold coin donation, and that is a way to also promote road safety as it gives you a break from driving )
So pulled off the highway, and i think everybody else had the same thought as it was so hard to park the van, but managed to squeeze in.
Finally the rain stopped so off to battle the Sydney traffic!
It was lunch time by the time we got there so the traffic wasn't too bad.
We kept driving and found this great stop at a place just off the highway called Gunning.
The Lions Club have made this free "caravan park" available where there are nice clean, toilets and hot showers. Its right next to a lovely little river. The caravan took a bit of levelling, as the ground is very uneven (the fridge in the caravan is not like a normal fridge, these ones are filled with a type of gel, so for the fridge to work properly, they need to be very level. Our fridge runs on gas as well so we don't need to be plugged into power. ) Clever Ed set us all up with solar panels before we left, so we have lights, tv and we can charge all our phones and computer through the solar.
So we have set ourselves up for a couple of days, and we will happily support the business people of Gunning for making this lovely stop available for us.
We went for a walk through the very small, but lovely town this morning.
Gunning has a total population of about 500 people, and its surrounding farms are made up of Merino sheep for their wool.
So when we got home from our walk around the streets of Gunning, we spotted this lovely family of ducks that we just had to feed. It was so nice watching both mum and dad duck feeding their little babies.
We are going for a drive tomorrow back into Goulburn which is about an 80 klm round trip, just to stock up on some food. We can leave the caravan parked here, so it will be a quick trip in the car. We have never been into Goulburn before, its one of those many towns that get by-passed now because of the major highways that get built, so will see if there is anything interesting to photograph while i am there.
