PENOLA

We left our lovely spot at Casterton this morning. Yesterday Ed had a game of bowls at the club which was right next door to where we were camped.

That’s Ed getting ready to bowl in the green stripes...there were a total of 13 people there.

I was sitting under our caravan awning as I took this photo....unfortunately the photo was too grainy as we had so much smoke from the fires (1000 km away!) in the area.

He met some lovely people and they thanked him for playing as unfortunately these small towns are struggling with their sports clubs. Farmers are moving out of the area so numbers are dwindling.
His team won all their games so they got their $5 entry fee refunded to them.
A lot of the shops have closed since we were here last, so we made sure we bought our fuel, groceries and other bits and pieces in one of the “junk” shops that was closing down as well.

We decided we would head West more.....crossed the border to South Australia and stopped for a cuppa at a gorgeous little town called Penola.
Crossing the border we lost 30 minutes because of the time zone.

Such a pretty town...it’s about 350 km from Adelaide, in the Coonawarra wine growing are. There were so many wineries in the area and so many pretty cellar doors...shame we don’t drink wine...and it’s also known for its good dining.

The very tempting lolly shop....

And a mat that would suit Michelle ! ;)

It was getting warm so we walked back to the car and kept driving as we wanted to get to Naracoorte before the heat really got too bad.

I will continue this tomorrow as we have arrived at Naracoorte and want to see the area.
