MILDURA RIVER
It was a warm day today, not too warm, just right with a lovely gentle breeze.
After dinner we decided to go for a walk down the river as it was such a beautiful evening.
And this river never disappoints....
The sun was going down and reflecting off the bridge, which crosses over the river from Victoria to New South Wales...and also reflecting off the many houseboats on the left.
And I loveeee my trees....the sun bouncing off them...and memories of our young family and my Mum & Dad, sitting under those trees as Hubby & Dad tried to catch a decent fish but instead reeling in a European Carp....and as you weren’t allowed to throw them back in, the old “knockometer” ( do not have a clue where that name came from ) alias Rubber Hammer or even a shoe would have to come out and give them a quick tap on the head......sounds awful but it was the quickest way to kill them.....sounds yuk...but it was just the done thing....it made for some funny memories though!!!
These are pop up cafes.....and they are dotted along the river....made from shipping containers.
They are very popular...especially on the weekends...and we noticed that there is planning permission submitted for a farmers market which will go well. Mildura is know for its citrus, grapes, produce & wines.
We had a great vege garden at home....everything grew so well as the red soil here is perfect for them. The kids used to go along the water channels that provided water for the fruit blocks and pick asparagus that grew wild there and bring it home for us.
And the wharf from where the paddle steamers leave from...looked lovey lit up.
And this is what greeted us when we arrived home to our caravan park.
Another perfect evening..
So many great memories have flooded back to me here in Mildura .....we had great times here with the kids & my Mum & Dad xxx
Xxxxx
