NORMANTON
We left Karumba yesterday morning and drove back to Normanton to have a look around as we won’t be back this way again.
Normanton is just a very small cattle town, with a population of approx 1,000 people whom 750 are indigenous Australians.
It’s also know for its huge crocodile called Krys
Back then they were employed to shoot crocodiles for their skins, which this lady did.
Quite sad really...
From Normanton we headed down the highway towards Burke & Wills Roadhouse. It’s on the crossroads of 4 directions.
It was quite a busy place with caravans everywhere either topping up with fuel, or pumping up their tyres after coming off dirt tracks or letting them down.
And this is the campground. $30 @ night but no water hookup
You can understand why. It’s so dry out here.
Then from there we travelled on and stayed the night at a roadside camp.
Just basic...we have our own facilities and carry our own water so we are happy to camp here as we are rewarded with these lovely sunsets.
Bliss.
