GEORGETOWN

Settled here in Georgetown for just an overnighter.
The road from Mount Surprise to here was like a goat track in places, very narrow and lots of cows wandering about looking for feed.
It’s very, very dry out this way but in saying that,  the scenery was just spectacular coming in. It’s all rich red cobalt dirt and with the blue gum backdrop of the hills....just breathtaking.
The Town came into existence in 1869 when gold was found and the population grew to 3000, now its just 289

The river is dry, and being we are in a terrible drought, you can understand why.
It must look so lovely when it flows.

You can see how dry it is because that’s a mighty wide river bed.

There’s not a lot to see, but we went for a walk and the busiest place was the fuel depot/supermarket/post office/real estate/fast food takeaway....all in the one shop!
Being it’s “travelling season” there’s more tourists than locals!

The local pub....with the pretty bougainvillea bush.

Fruit & veg shop.....being the weekend everybody is closed.

And
“Down town Georgetown”..... where time stands still as even the clock has stopped.

But the sun is shining, we have plenty of food & we are happy! That’s enough for us!

****** just as an afterthought.... I just finished posting this blog and looked up from my chair where I’m sitting outside the van...... the trees and that blue sky without a cloud to be seen and that gentle warm breeze.....how lucky are we   :)
