MOUNT SURPRISE DAY 2

Relaxing day today although Ed had a clean up and I did lots of cooking to put in the freezer as things will get expensive.
Lemonade scones are the go at the moment, so easy to make and so delicious :)

We went for a walk, although we really had seen as much of the town as possible yesterday.

But..... we did get to see the Savannahlander train pull into the station!

It’s a two carriage train that leaves Cairns on Wednesday mornings and travels up the range to Kurunda stopping at the Barron Falls ( that we have been to)
Through the world heritage rainforest and continues on to the Atherton and Mareeba Tablelands, then into the Gulf Savannah region where we are now.

On Friday, (today) it pulls into Mt Surprise, where we are now, then it leaves here in the morning and returns to Cairns.

It’s very popular and every one raves about the trip. The two young train drivers have been doing it for about 8 years now and they are real characters. They know every bit of the land and the wildlife.

I did take a video but I just can’t post it which is disappointing.

Anyway I’m glad I got to see it.

On our way back to the caravan, we came across this random piece of art that people add to.....and that’s Ed’s contribution right up the top. It’s the tiny pebble! Probably too small to see but he was chuffed!!

Tomorrow we leave Mt Surprise and head to Georgetown. Apparently we were told the road is very narrow and the road trains are so big you just need to take care and move over out of their way....as you would!!!!

It’s only about 96 klm! So that’s not too bad. :)

*****forgot to add....you can’t drink the water out this way now, it’s bore water and it’s too salty so we have bought lots of 10litre containers of drinking water.
We really are “outback”. Haven’t seen a supermarket for a while. I had to buy a loaf of bread from the caravan park.... it’s frozen....that’s all they have!

We are loving it...and living the dream!

No “bitchin” here  xxxx ;)
