MOUNT GARNET

We are just amazed at the lovely places we are finding.
Stopped here after about a 50 klm drive from Ravenshoe because we were told of the cheap diesel fuel.

Another little hidden gem in the outback.

There’s not much in the town. The local grocer shop has closed so everything is sold in the petrol station.
The population is 433 with 35% being aboriginal.
It was built as a mining community in the 19th century and was a booming town but over the years the mines have closed and people have gone elsewhere for work.

We went for a walk but there’s not a lot of activity but found some really interesting things.

There’s been royalty here.... apologies...but they’ve named the toilets after
Charlie & Di...

Murals on the local Town Hall..

And I found this tucked away in the bushes...

Where he got the shells from this far inland is a mystery...

And this is our stop over for a few days behind the petrol station that’s once again provided for free once you buy your fuel.

Oh and this was taken in down town Mount Garnet in the middle of peak hour!

And one more photo that I forgot to include from back at Ravenshoe....

Hope you can read that....I thought it was interesting.

Leaving here tomorrow and on to our next adventure..... :)
