BARALABA

We were lucky enough to stumble upon this spot on the river.

We left Duaringa this morning and decided to take a road that we had never been on before instead of taking the main road to Baralaba.

We checked at the BP servo with the girl there to make sure this road was sealed and not gravel as it wasn't showing on the map.
She said it was all sealed but to be careful as we would go through a lot of cattle grids and some were a bit dodgy.
She also said to be careful at a flood crossing at the half way mark as it was quite a big dip in the road, and a lot of caravaners had done great damage to their caravans by going through it too fast....not because it was flooded as we are in drought out here, but because it was a very big dip in the road and it would 'bottom-out' the van

So with all her expert advice...off we went.
What a lovely 60 Klm trip it was! It was a slow trip... but that's because the road was narrow and I was driving a bit slower than usual.
We were all by ourselves out there, which was lovely, until all of a sudden a voice comes over the CB..."right  behind you"
It was a farmer wanting to pass so I pulled over when I could to let him pass and he gave us a wave of thanks.

There was lots to see as the wheat is ready to be harvested, the cotton had been picked so the fields were getting ready to sow again, the cockatoos and galas were having a munch of the wheat, lots of kangaroos that hadn't made it across the road, lots of emus and this is also cattle country so lots of Brahman Cattle that I have taken a real liking to for some reason.
(Apparently they are good eating but I don't want to think about that)

So travelling along, we came to the flood way that the lady warned me to go slow, which I did. It's a concrete causeway and being that it was a warm day, there just happened to be a huge brown snake, sunning himself!!

Well as I was told to go slow, I got a good look at him to make sure that he slithered off and didn't get wrapped around our wheels.... which he did 🐍🐍🐍

So we are now set up at the lovely weir with a few others.

We are off for a walk to explore the exciting town of Baralaba 😂😂❤️❤️

Well that was an exciting trip 'in to town' ....

This is the chemist...what looks like the built in bottom of an old Queenslander home...,

The local shop that sells everything and anything with the old wooden floorboards...,

Somebody's front garden...

Oh and on the way in to 'town' we were swooped by a bloody vicious magpie, so we quickly found some dead tree branches and had to wave them over our heads till we got safely past it's nest. What a sight we made!!!

But that's the Aussie way so everybody knew what we were doing!!

This was our sunset at our camp.

It was a great spot. ❤️❤️❤️
