(Backup) LAKE ELPHINSTONE & COLLINSVILLE

Lake Elphinstone was another great spot. We have been to so many lovely camp spots that we have never been to before. Queensland really do look after the traveller by providing so many free camp spots.

The approach to the lake was such a lovely sight, better we thought than Theresa Dam as this area was a lot flatter to get the van level, which is important for the fridge to work properly on gas.

So we found a lovely spot and set up for the three days.

Breakfast tasted better outside!!

And we were lucky enough to witness such a beautiful sunset with the full moon over the lake.

The photo doesn't do it justice at all as its on the iPad and a bit grainy, but it was so pretty.

After three days we left the lake and drove to COLLINSVILLE.

This town is another mining town but it was hit very hard back in March with Cyclone Debbie.
It's quite a small town but a very friendly town, as all country towns are.

We are at a great little stopover provided by the town where we can stay for 3 days. Over the road is a Working Mans Club that let you shower there for a gold coin donation which was a welcome relief from the quick showers in the van at the lake.

This town is renowned for its 'PIT PONIES'

These great creatures were for the miners to haul the coal out from the mines.
They called them pit ponies after the ones in England, but because our mines here were a lot higher, they used Clydesdale horses instead for their strength. We went a did a mine experience tour, and the stories of the miners and horses were so interesting, sad and funny.

Ed found a mate!!!

These are the exact size of the pit ponies used....huge.... But gentle giants.

Tomorrow we had off to the coast! The beach at last after nearly eight weeks.
Bowen here we come!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
