MORANBAH & NEBO

Left Theresa Dam today and stopped off at Moranbah for a top up of food and fuel.

Moranbah was specifically created for miners and their families. It's a coal mining town with about 9,000 people. It also has a large fly-in-fly-out population in excess of 1500 who work in the mines.
Moranbah service 5 large mines and several other coal mines. It was established in 1969 and rapidly expanded in the late 70's to house miners.

It was reported in 2011 to be the most expensive place to live in Queensland, being 65 % above Brisbane!
And we got food and fuel!!!!!......
We really didn't think it any more expensive than home when you shop at Coles and fuel from Liberty👍
Personally I could see the money spent by the mines as the roads were good, the gardens were lovely and green, the parks and children's playgrounds were spotless.

The landscape changes here because of the mines. Quite amazing really when you haven't seen it before as the scale of everything is HUGE...
The machinery is massive, and when it's moved, you have to just get off the road for it to pass.

We stopped for lunch and found this coal bucket...42 tonne!!

So now we are staying at NEBO. This town is dominated by sheep and wool growing, cattle and mining support servicing.

It's just a very small town with a pub....and general store. Not much more but a very pretty town in the middle of the bush.

Shame it's not this price anymore! 😳

Thats our little van parked out the back of a very busy petrol station/grocery store/takeaway shop that I'm convinced everybody going past on the highway stop at!

Found these orchids growing in a dead tree.....Bertie's favourites!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Tomorrow we leave, heading north onto Lake Elphinstone. It's very warm, and while we have power at the moment, we have our air con pumping.....tomorrow we go off grid...so a lake will be welcomed.. ❤️❤️
