STANSBURY & EDITHBURGH
Woke to a lovely sunrise this morning....
Unfortunately it didn’t stay that way before the clouds drifted in and we started to get some light rain. It was cool this morning, so we thought a drive would be an ideal thing to do.
So we looked at the map, put it away, and just drove!!
Apparently the Yorke Peninsula is excellent at growing barley, so there’s a lot of open land that has already been harvested...you can see for miles and miles.
We ended up at a small, sleepy seaside town of Stansbury. It was a lovely old town, that was once used as a port for exporting wheat and barley to Adelaide.
We found a great little cafe called The Blue Lime, that had the best coffee and scones, for morning tea!
It was such a quirky place that sold lots of “stuff”...
And the people that owned the place were so nice.
These were painted on the walls outside...
This is a memorial to all the people that either lost their lives at sea, or just loved fishing or even just sitting at this place which I thought was a lovely thing to do for the families.
So then we went on to Edithburgh, another small seaside town, which is 50km across the Gulf St. Vincent to Adelaide..... but 226km by road!
There wasn’t much there, but we found this swimming area.
Check out the fake “painted” poo on the chairs! Our jetty out the front of the caravan park here has Pelicans perched up on the lights, so you have to be VERY careful when you walk along...or else you get splattered!
Not sure if you could read the sign about this swimming area...But in 1885, this area was a men’s beach only as the local Reverend used to swim there regularly...mixed bathing was definitely not allowed! Luckily times have changed and it’s a great area for families, and safe for young kids.
So that was our day out driving. The weather did eventually clear up....but Ed’s just come back from trying his luck out fishing from the pier....saying it’s too windy out there....no fish for dinner tonight!!!
XXXXX
