Marburg Showgrounds
We have come back to Marburg Showgrounds for the races. And what a fun day it was!
Because we are camped in the Showgrounds, the entry fee was waived....bonus!....the weather was great....another bonus....and we had no idea what we were doing...so that was fun!
You get a race book, and inside there is what they called 'funny money'
Of which in total was about $1,500 dollars! Shame it was 'funny'....anyway with that money you could have a bet on the races. There were five races in total, eight horses per race.
It was a real country meeting...no top hat and tails here...as you can see.......
Shorts, t-shirts and thongs (flip flops) was the dress code! And the food.....snags in bread, steak sandwiches and pie and sauce!
So we went to have a look at the horses going around the 'ring' before the races....looking like we knew what we were doing, trying to pick a horse!
And then this horse appeared....a beautiful grey, which I love, called Ghost Gum. What a great Aussie name ...
So we had to have a bet on her.....and she won! But she was favourite! So she didn't pay much at all.
This was After she won.....but unfortunately it all went down hill from there.....we couldn't pick our noses after that!
At the end of the day, there was an auction, with prizes like fruit trays, bottles of wine, dinner for two at the local pub (including desert!) and a man bag that consisted of three crown lager beers, peanuts, licorice allsorts, all in a small esky bag! What more could a man want. To bid on those terrific items, you needed to use your funny money that you had won through the day......well of course that put an end to our auction bidding....but we had a great day. And we didn't have to go far to go home for a cuppa!
