KEMPSEY NSW.
We are not due back to Tweed till Wednesday, so we are staying at the Kempsey Showgrounds where we have stayed before.
The amenities here are spotless, and the caretakers are new here, but are a lovely couple.
We’ve had a bit of rain yesterday, but today it was just intermittent showers so we thought a trip to South West Rocks Beach would be a good idea. We love it there.
So first we went up the mountain (this mountain had a tarred road and was wide enough for two cars 🤣🤣) to the Smokey Cape Lighthouse.
It rained just as we pulled up, being that we were so far up it’s was just a misty rain. You can just about see the lighthouse in the background.
Because the rain got harder we decided not to walk up to the top…..it was quite cold up there too.
So just stayed at Captain Cook Lookout.
What a view. Shame the weather wasn’t in our favour but it was just as stunning standing there with the kangaroos.
They are everywhere, and are very used to all us humans, although I wouldn’t get too close as the front one is a Joey …..Dads on the right and was huge when he stood up to keep an eye on the Bub.
From there we drove back down and around the point to the remains of the
Trial Bay Gaol.
We paid our money and went in for a look. First there was a short film on its history, then we went off for a wander.
Loads of kangaroos here as well. You had to be very careful where you stepped. 😳😳😉😉💩💩🦘🦘
The view from the Watch Tower.
It was very interesting to read all about the Gaol and go through different parts of it.
From there we went to South West Rocks, found a fish and chip shop and had the best fish for lunch.
This town is absolutely stunning. We went into the caravan park there as it’s right on the water to see if we could come back and stay.
No hope! It’s booked out completely for months and months. I can totally understand why as this is the view you get from the park.
From South West Rocks, we followed the the road around the coast and came to this sleepy little coastal town called Hat Head.
It’s a dead end road being that you go in and out on the same road.
You follow the road for about 12 km then come in to a very small coastal town that looks like the world forgot about.
There’s some houses, bowling club and a small general store. Then there’s this huge caravan park that’s full to the brim……again.
You walk down a path through bush that warns you to be careful of brown snakes as they’ve been sighted…….which I think is a deterrent to “stay away from our local beach” as the pathway is well kept and all cement.
And then you come out to yet another stunning beach. This one is obviously a good fishing beach as there were a few very brown caravan park people ( you can pick them a mile off …..in a nice way )…….all fishing.
It’s a rugged looking beach, untouched & unspoiled ……..and further along you can swim.
The temperature of the water was amazingly warm being so far south.
So that was our day. A very busy day, but a lovely beach day.
Tomorrow we leave and head inland so no more beaches till we get home.
Take care everyone. ❤️❤️
