ELLENBOROUGH FALLS.

****** This post is going to be a long one….it deserves it 😊😊

From where we are staying at Taree, it’s about a 50km drive out to The Falls, which is marked on the map as Elands, at the red dot. 

It’s a beautiful drive through green farmland and small communities.  You do come to one part that’s a dirt road going up through the mountains. 

We are not normally keen on mountain driving (we both get car sick) but this drive was really good. 

We were up really high……and There’s one part that gets a “bit hairy”…..as the road turns to dirt…well dirt and corrugations.  Its only one lane as with the rain they’ve had up there on the mountain, it’s been washed away in places and they’ve had a few landslides 😳….but apart from that, I took it slow and we were fine.👍

We got to the top after about an hours driving …….

And just WOW!!

Just wanted to say first though we are loving our new car. 

The back drops down and it’s just a perfect height for making that much needed coffee and cake before tackling the small walks and lookouts we come across.  

So there’s three walks you can do. 

First one is to the “LOOKOUT”.  Not very far at all. 

And this was our first view.

The falls are a single drop (called a horsetail) of about 200 metres (660ft)

It’s the second largest in Australia & the Southern Hemisphere. 

The highest being Wallaman Falls west of Ingham in North Queensland.

The rock face itself is 550 million years old, and the Falls were formed due to a “strata fault” 30 million years ago. 

So that’s your Geology lesson for today 😂😂

The second walk is called “BOTTOM OF THE FALLS”

And it read ……..

“This walk features 450 metres of elevated steps and ramps.”

“There are 641 steps 😳😳😳…..(which meant 641 back up )that take you down to the gorge, dropping 160 metres in altitude.” 

“Going down…..allow 30 minutes”

“Coming up…..allow 45 minutes “

“This walk is of a difficult grade and requires a moderate level of fitness”

“Seats are placed along the way to allow you time to sit and soak up the atmosphere and rest your legs.

Warning…..this track is extremely steep.😂😉🤭
