This morning we woke up early and it was quite cold. Being that we have been up north for a while now, it unusual to wake up cold. Usually its the heat that wakes you up, so it was a nice change, very refreshing.

There have been no more storms, and the sun has been shining!!
So today we went into Gundagai which was about 35klms south of us on the Hume highway.

Gundagai to me, means the Dog on the Tuckerbox which is a monument to the pioneers of the Riverina District.
Supposedly, the role of the Dog, was to guard his masters tuckerbox and other possessions, while the master sought help after being bogged at one of the many river crossings. His master, the driver of the bullock team, would never return, hence the dog would stay guarding his masters tuckerbox (food tin) and possessions until the dog died.

I remember way back, i must of been about 8 years old when i first went on a trip with my Mum and Dad and we stopped at this place. I have been back many times, as you pass it on the way going North and South along the east coast of Australia.
I remember getting all the little souvenir's from the shop. My little dog on the tuckerbox pencil sharpener used to sit proudly on my little desk in my bedroom.....i don't think i ever used it i was so in awe of this "faithful doggy"

We have also been to see the dog with our son Mark, his wife Mel, Jake, Byron and Noah.

There is a song which goes something like...where the dog sits on the tuckerbox....five miles from Gundagai" and i never really twigged that there was a town, just this monument on the Hume, so today we went looking for that "town" and although small, it was another lovely town that we have found on this trip.

So this photo is for our gorgeous grandsons, Byron and Noah because they were too young at the time to remember. xx

I seem to be taking a lot of photos of pubs, but i just love the character of the old country town pubs, even though i never go in them!

So another day ends of our travels, another day closer to seeing our family. Its been hard to travel slow, as normally we rush down to see them, being that we live so far away from each other, we miss them so much, especially Byron and Noah who we love "to the moon and back"
But due to other circumstances, we are not sure if we will get this time to travel so slow again, so we will make the most of it and see all these lovely towns that we usually by-pass in our rush.

And also love and hugs to my favourite aunt in England who is sharing this trip with us via this blog. I hope you are enjoying the ride Bett.... how lucky are we to have such a lovely family xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
