Today our gorgeous grandson Byron turns 13....a teenager!! Time goes so fast, and you only realise it when you think back to the time when i held him in my arms when he was first born, and you think your heart will burst with love, and now as i think of him, he has grown into such a loving, kind, thoughtful grandson. His parents have done well!!We are travelling down to Geelong to see this lovely family, so on with the journey.
Wingham is a small town that was settled in 1853 on the banks of the Manning River, with lots of National Trust listed Federation buildings.
We are camped down by the river, right next to Wingham Brush Nature Reserve which has acres of subtropical rain-forest and is home to literally thousands of endangered grey-headed flying fox.
At sunset, these flying fox take to the sky to head out for their evening meal. I have never seen anything like it before, what a spectacular sight it was, although i kept under our caravan awning as i didnt want to be covered in bat-poo!!
The day we arrived, a lovely man named Ron who was from Wingham Advancement Group, came to greet us and supplied us with lots of information about what to do in the area and lots of reading material.
Wingham really welcome visitors to the area, which in turn, we repay by spending money in their town, so it works both ways.
Here are a few more pictures of where we were camped.
