WALLA WALLA
Well today we left Wagga Wagga, and drove about 130 km to Walla Walla!!
It’s another small town with an interesting history.
It was established in 1869 when 56 settlers of German extraction moved from the Barossa Valley of South Australia in search of farming land as it was in short supply in SA. These settlers first named this place Ebenezer...after their hometown in SA....but it was changed to Walla Walla....and aboriginal name for “Place of many rocks”
And speaking of rocks.....we found a lookout....
Not sure if you are able to read it....but in essence it was named after the bushranger “Mad Dog Morgan” who hid in these rocks with his horse hidden in the crevices....it’s an interesting read...born 30.4.1830....died 9.4.1865...
Around the front of this granite rock is 64 steps up to the top....and what a view
Even though it was cold...Ed still has those shorts on! :)
We are set up here at the Showgrounds with one other camper. It’s a lovely spot, very quiet and very close to the little village.
The local football team...the Grasshoppers...
We are spoilt with power and lovely hot showers for $10 @ night...
The local vet...
This is a shelter in the middle of the street where you can sit and have a smoke and the chair on the right belongs to Chris....and it’s his BSC...bull shit chair!
These next photos belong in one of the shops above...
They are cups glued on to the saucers..and come with a little packet of bird seed and can hang from trees or verandas....clever people...
And a lovely sky at the end of another lovely day...
XXXXX
