MILDURA
We have been in Mildura for a couple of days now and have had a lovely time catching up with family we haven’t seen in a long time.
Mildura has changed so much in the time we left to make the big move up to Tweed & the Gold Coast ....nothing stays the same I know....but the changes here are just unbelievable!
**** I’ll just put a warning here...there’s a lot of photos as I’m doing this for the kids as they haven’t seen Mildura for 30 years....so you are most welcome to skip this ;) *******
We lived in Mildura for approx 15 years...and back then, the TV didn’t start till the afternoon and turned off at 11pm...so if you were a night owl...we only had the radio to listen to....but on the good side....you could go out and leave your doors unlocked, never worried where your kids were....they knew they had to be home before dark....you could go along the railway lines and pick all the asparagus you wanted...and let the kids ride motorbikes down to the river, or horses anywhere they liked.
Mildura is known for its grapevines and citrus fruits....and money to be made by picking the fruit of both....good money back then, all you had to do is pick grapes in 40+degrees! Easy! We did it!
It was a very sporting town, as it was such an isolated place. We were involved with cricket, golf, footy, squash, horse racing, BMX, marching, guides, and we had a speed boat as we were right on the beautiful Murray River.
This is the pool in Irymple (a suburb where we lived and the kids went to primary & secondary schools. They lived at this pool as it was just across the road from where we lived..
Deakin Ave Fishers...it’s changed but that’s where Ed started working when we moved up here from Geelong
Langtree Mall....it wasn’t a mall when we lived there ...
The only Chinese place in the town
The only cinema where the kids all used to meet up
All down the waterfront....
Mildura has some lovely old Paddle steamers
And the lovely Murray with the new bridge in the background
And I can’t tell you how many times the kids use to climb all over this train....it wasn’t fenced back then!
And another place the kids used to hang out...”meet you at the Rowers” good times.
And L to R
Ed, our nephew Christopher, Ed’s brother Gerry, and Matthew our nephew
All the VUIK lads!
And our lovely nephew Mathew, with his beautiful wife Jess, and their gorgeous twins Lilly left & Mirabella right or is that the other way around?.... they are very alike :)
We have had the best time catching up with most of the family...we are here another couple of days so will catch up with a few more.
